Applications

Curing Ovens

Heated ovens are used for preheating metal parts in preparation for various coating processes, drying parts by eliminating water or moisture accumulated during pre-treatment washing, or curing various coatings. Composite structures used in the automotive and aircraft industries which are assembled with epoxy resins many times require oven curing with heated air. Coils can be designed to work with any heating medium such as steam, thermal oil, or other high temperature thermal fluid. Carbon steel tubes and fins are generally limited to a maximum of 750 deg F (399 deg C) for prolonged service life of 20 years or more. Stainless steel (304 and 316) tubes and fins can be used for temperatures as high as 1700 deg F (926 deg C).

Drying

Heated air can be used to effectively dry dimensional lumber in dry kilns, as well as other wood products such as plywood, fiberboard, and particle board. Heated air drying is also an important process in the manufacture of wood pellets and other pelletized biomass products. Many grains including corn, wheat, and barley are dried using heated air. Heating coils can be designed with wide fin spacing or bare tubes to resist fouling and tolerate airstreams containing dirt and dust.

Pulp and Paper

Pulp drying ovens require large quantities of heated air typically generated using steam heating coils. Colmac can supply replacement steam heating coils for Flakt airborne pulp dryers. We have cooperated with Daken Enterprises Ltd and other companies specializing in this field to develop robust replacement steam coil designs which extend the working life of these steam coils.

Clothes Drying

Industrial laundry finishing equipment using heated air require robust heating coils for clothes drying typically use with steam or hot oil as the heating medium. Heated air is passed over wet garments at high velocity to dry the garment and remove wrinkles. Colmac has specialized in the design and manufacture of these heating coils to produce high capacities with long life in these applications. Heating coils for OEM customers as well as replacement coils for existing laundry machines are available.

Hot Oil, Steam, Thermal Fluids

CoilPRO selection software allows users to accurately select air heating coils for process heating applications using any heating medium including hot water, steam, hot oil, Paratherm, Duratherm, Dowtherm, or other thermal fluids. Where appropriate tubeside enhancement devices such as turbulators can be applied for increased capacity with reduced pumping power.
