Costa Rica, March 18th, 2021 - The first low charge ammonia and direct expansion installation was completed in Costa Rica in the Stratum Coca-Cola project. Engineering Firm Refrigeracion Y Soluciones De Frio was tasked to develop the refrigeration system of the 43,000 Square Meter Coca Cola Concentrates Plant. Colmac Coil ADX™ low charge ammonia technology was chosen by Refrigeracion Y Soluciones De Frio to help Coca-Cola accomplish its environmental, energy and safety goals and to introduce the safe and efficient direct expansion technology to Costa Rica.

The project was originally designed by another professional group as a recirculated system with ammonia.
"After winning the job, there was questioning of the ammonia charge, then we were asked to redesign the system." Said Engineer Salas "This was the perfect opportunity to redesign the project with a new technology that has not been applied yet in Costa Rica"
The redesign of the refrigeration system, including Colmac Coil's ADX™ technology delivered:
- Increased energy efficiency of the refrigeration system.
- A natural refrigerant that does not contribute to ozone depletion and global warming.
- A system developed under IIAR standards and INTECO standards in Costa Rica, Montreal Agreement and Neutrality Carbon Country Program
Engineer Lisandro Salas Mora, received the Innovative Technologist Award from CITEC (College of Technologist Engineers) for the redesign of the Stratum Coca Cola project. The CITEC Award is given to individuals who make outstanding contributions to their respective field of engineering.
